What do skimmers do and why do they leak? Skimmers are usually made of plastic and built into the side of a pool at the water line. Water and debris from the pool surface is directed through a moving door called a weir. The debris is collected in a removable basket and the water is re-circulated. A pool may have one or more skimmers depending on the pool size.

The interface of the skimmer at the pool wall creates the most opportunities for leaking problems to happen. The plastic skimmer face can separate from the pool tile, plaster, concrete, or coping. This failure can happen for many reasons including normal settling, shrinkage, differences in expansion rates due to temperature fluctuations, and freeze damage. The Emecole skimmer repair process injects a two part polyurethane which, when mixed together, rapidly expands into a flexible foam. The foam fills any voids in the area between the skimmer and the concrete. By filling this void with a flexible material, the need for future maintenance is virtually eliminated. Forget about temporary caulk and putty repairs lasting a couple of years. Seal the skimmer once and for all.
